The game is played online, in a fantasy setting similar to that of the other Ultima games that preceded it.

The basic idea is, that when the Stranger shattered Mondain's Gem of Immortality, each of the fragments of the gem hold a perfect copy of Sosaria in them. In these many Britannias, the people, the players, interact on a daily basis, live their lives and have lots of fun. It is a huge universe where people act in this world, fight, trade and live.

How to get a free Ultima Online account and connect to the server

Free Ultima Online Shard in South Africa
Get yourself an IRC client, most commonly from http://www.mirc.com

The IRC Network is ATRUM
The IRC Server is za.atrum.org
and the port number is 6667
and the channel is #uosa

Register your IRC nickname once you have connected to the IRC server above.
Commands: /msg nickserv help

Register on the forums! NB! Remember to use the same nick here as in IRC.
Forums (May take 2 days before your forum account is activated)

Read all the rules on the main website: uosa.unknownrealms.co.za

Remember to temporary add "ACC|" in front of your nick in IRC so that the irc admins know you want an account.

Install UOML and patch your client up to 6.0.1.7 (read more)

NB! Copy and overwrite all the files in your main uo directory with the 4 files in this zip file (This will fix the skills/colours/commands for this Shard)

Conclusion: The original 2D client looks better and sharper. The Kingdom Reborn client looks washed out and blocky. The interface of UOKR is buggy and the items look ugly. UOKR Stats window also too big and unclear. UOKR paperdoll ugly and blocky. UOKR Skills window too clumsy and unclear. UOKR chat window looks ugly and unclear. I've tried all settings in UOKR but couldn't get it playable like in 2D. Sorry EA, but try again!
